My friend Andrew made an astute observation as we sat down at the Froggy Bottom Pub: Any restaurant that has both buffalo wings and pho on the menu could be a diamond in the rough... or it could just be The Rough. Intrigued by the possibility and hungry for wings, I did what any self-respecting wingman would do. I ordered both.

The atmosphere at Froggy Bottom is something akin to a mall food court, and the menu is about as varied. Options range from wings, pizza and sandwiches to vietnamese noodle soup. So, um... 'A' for effort. We ordered 10 buffalo wings to share, beef pho, a burger, and two rounds of Miller Light, which seemed like a good idea at the time. Our waitress was friendly and the conversation good. Wings arrived in what seemed like no time at all.

The menu said "buffalo wings", I ordered buffalo wings, but we did not get buffalo wings. They were breaded, crispy, and admirably hot from the fryer, but not a drop of sauce on 'em! No spice, no vinegar or chili, no nothing. So what can I say? They were freshly cooked and the crisp, salty breading went well with beer, but I was expecting buffalo wings and got fried chicken. Had they performed any better I might have been able to overlook the pun, but I'm afraid that Froggy Bottom is nowhere near the top of my list.

Oh, and the Pho? It was alright, but I'm pretty hard to impress. You're talking to a boy raised in Queens here.
