Clydes of Georgetown

Fun Fact: The song Afternoon Delight, a 1976 number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, was named after the late afternoon appetizer menu at Clyde's of Georgetown. I didn't know this, or really anything at about Clyde's, when I went for a coworker's sendoff happy hour one Wednesday after work. What I did know was that the delight of that particular afternoon would be chicken wings and beer.

Walking in I was struck by the size of the place. They have a full bar up front with a decor that my co-workers described as "Gatsbian" and "pseudo-nautical", and a large dining room in the back with model airplanes dangling from a partial glass ceiling. What I found eclectic and almost charming one of my companions called "Kitty Hawk meets TGI Fridays". Wings are $6 a dozen at the bar during happy hour and I ordered them extra crispy. The bartender stared when I eagerly took out my camera as the wings arrived, but I happily sacrifice happy hour decorum in the name of poultry photography.

The wings are alright. Good in fact, a full dozen, scoring high for flavor with fairly authentic buffalo sauce. They were fresh, hot, and came with quality blue cheese, celery, and just a little bit of attitude from the waiter. These were small wings but I liked them, my dining companions all liked them, and I'm going to go ahead and recommend them. Expect quality wings from Clyde's if not quite skyrockets in flight.
