DC Improv Comedy Club/Restaurant
Submitted by Michael on Thu, 04/23/2009 - 3:40amOnce a month the DC Improv hosts a happy hour trivia night with "Comedian Chris White," who really sucks. In spite of the lame prizes ($15 + chips and salsa for first place) it regularly fills up and is a reservations-only affair, but my friend got us in because he used to work with the host. Like they say, in this town it's not what you know, it's who you know.
Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurant
Submitted by Michael on Mon, 04/20/2009 - 2:16amI went with a group of people to see the Earth Day concert on the mall. The Flaming Lips headlined, and when things wrapped up at about 6:30 we were all ready for wings and beer. With the crowd descending on Penn Quarter eateries like a swarm of locusts, we decided that Gordon Biersch would be a good bet for wings and fast service. On our way in I stopped at the entrance to take a picture for this review -- one of my friends ran out to tell me: they don't have buffalo wings.
Froggy Bottom Pub
Submitted by Michael on Mon, 04/20/2009 - 1:27amMy friend Andrew made an astute observation as we sat down at the Froggy Bottom Pub: Any restaurant that has both buffalo wings and pho on the menu could be a diamond in the rough... or it could just be The Rough. Intrigued by the possibility and hungry for wings, I did what any self-respecting wingman would do. I ordered both.
McFadden's Restaurant & Saloon
Submitted by Michael on Sat, 04/18/2009 - 4:38amI was looking forward to not liking McFaddens. By all appearances a GW college bar, the place had several strikes against it before I even got there... being a GW college bar foremost among them. McFadden's is huge, Jagerbombs are advertised prominently, and there was no outside seating on one of the nicest days of the year. I was ready for it: mushy, unremarkable wings and a sarcastic negative review. But when I put down my Yuengling and bit into one, I had to admit I was wrong.
Tunnicliff's Tavern
Submitted by Michael on Wed, 03/18/2009 - 4:41amWhile I normally get right down to it with these reviews, I think many readers will want to know about a website I just discovered. It has a similar name to this one and information about all types of things that aren't chicken wings. Indeed, it helped me learn that St. Patrick's Day has nothing to do with wings at all. Given Tunnicliff's performance I'm not surprised.
